What is MFYI?

What kind of music will I hear?

We use the term “experimental music” to describe a wide range of styles: from graphic scores, chance music, improvisation, and uncommon instruments, to more traditionally notated scores. You can get a good idea of what’s coming up by looking at our upcoming releases on our Upcoming page.

What are the art print postcards like?

Each postcard is a 4 x 6 inch display-worthy print of an original art piece that pairs with that month’s music video, either visually, thematically, or historically. The postcards are sent through the mail in the spirit of the Mail Art visual art movement, so they may show signs of their travel.

Who are the MFYI artists?

MFYI artists are professional musicians and visual artists who have been hired to create art for this project. To discover which artists are coming up in our next releases, visit our Upcoming page. MFYI releases have been made specifically for this project and cannot be viewed anywhere else. To avoid missing any releases, sign up before the 10th of the month, our guaranteed delivery cutoff date for each release.

Can I watch the performances somewhere else?

Nope. All MFYI releases are exclusive, so the only way to see that month’s performance is to sign up! Make sure to sign up before the 15th of the month, our guaranteed delivery cutoff date for each release.

How is MFYI different from watching videos on YouTube or streaming a concert?

Many performers on YouTube, or other free streaming platforms, aren’t getting paid for their performances! MFYI pays all of our performers and technical staff for their work. As well, our videos are directed and filmed with excellent production values so when you watch an MFYI video you won't experience glitching or low-quality audio/video. We design the filming style to enhance the aesthetic objectives of each performance, so your experience is rich and cohesive.

What do my monthly fees support?

Your subscription fee supports everyone who works to produce our videos and artwork, including performers, visual artists, audio engineers, video engineers, graphic designers, local printers, and production staff, and also mechanical licensing for composers. Administrative costs account for only about 10% of our monthly budget because we want to keep artists and creators at the center of MFYI.
